Muscle Shoals, Ala. -- The state?s top two-year college basketball teams will compete for the Alabama Community College Conference(ACCC) championships March 3-9, 2008, in the ACCC Division I Men?s and Women?s Basketball Tournament at the Patriot Center on the Muscle Shoals campus of Northwest-Shoals Community College.
The ACCC Division I Men?s tournament will feature the top 12 teams (six from each of the ACCC North and South divisions) and will be held March 3rd - 6th. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four seeds from each division will earn automatic spots in the tournament. However, the fifth and sixth seeds out of each division will be determined through play-in games on March 1st.
The ACCC Division I Women?s tournament will feature the top 12 teams (six from each of the ACCC North and South divisions) and will be held March 6th - 9th. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top six seeds from each division will earn automatic spots in the tournament.
The winning teams will represent Alabama in the men?s and women?s Division I national tournaments. The Women?s NJCAA tournament will be held March 18 - 22 in Salina, Kansas. The Men?s NJCAA tournament will be held March 18 - 22 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Not only does the tournament feature the ACCC?s top teams, it is a showcase for the state?s top two-year college student-athletes including many of the nation?s statistical leaders in scoring, rebounding, three point shooting and field goal percentage. This is a premier event of the ACCC?s athletic season, as the visiting teams will bring hundreds of fans to the Shoals campus of Northwest-Shoals Community College. The tournament also draws four-year college coaches, recruiters and the news media.
