CACC Golfer Selected ASWA Community College Athlete of the Year
ACCC
6/7/09

Zach Primavera put an exclamation point on what has become a very successful start to his college golf stats. Primavera, a freshman at Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City, Alabama , was named the "Alabama Sports Writers Association Community College Athlete of the Year". Primavera accepted the award at a reception held at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in Birmingham earlier this week. In his speech, Primavera said it was a great honor to receive an award that recognizes the hard work he has put into his game for so many years. Primavera paid tribute to his Central Alabama Golf Coach, Dave Jennings and his Trojan Golf Teammates, as well as his parents and brother for their support and encouragement. Primavera said he set a goal at the beginning of the season to get the CACC Player of the Year and All-American honors but never imagined he would receive such a prestigious award that has honored past Alabama college athletes who are now playing professionally in their prospective fields. The Alabama Sports Writers Association first began recognizing outstanding athletes in their state in 1974, with Primavera being the first collegiate golfer to receive the award. During his freshman college season, Primavera qualified for all 12 tournaments, earning All-Tournament Medalist honors three times, including the NJCAA D1 District and Region Championships, as well as earning All-Tournament Team honors nine times. Primavera was named Central Alabama Community College Player of the Year, PING All-Region First Team, PING All-Region Player of the Year, PING All-American First Team and NJCAA D1 All-American First Team. Primavera lead his CACC Trojan team with a 73.1 scoring average.
