Bevill State Community College center fielder Jarrett Shepherd signed a baseball scholarship with the University of North Alabama during the fall signing period.
Shepherd, a sophomore, batted .310 for Bevill State with 15 stolen bases and 12 RBIs in 2005.
"We're excited about the players we've signed," UNA head coach Mike Lane said. "Shepherd is an aggressive player with good speed and is an outstanding outfielder."
Shepherd is a native of Tuscaloosa and was a three-year starter at Tuscaloosa County High School. He was also a three-time American Legion state champion as a member of Tuscaloosa Post 34, and in 2003 and 2005, Shepherd and his team were runners-up in the Southeast regional tournament.
"Jarrett is a great fielder, and he's great in the classroom, too. I am excited for him to have this opportunity," said Bevill State head coach Joey May. "I think we can expect great things from him as a sophomore leader this spring, and I know everyone here at Bevill State wishes him the best."
While at Bevill State, Shepherd has maintained a 3.5 grade point average as a liberal arts major. He plans to major in business at UNA.
