Bevill Wins Two at Home
Bevill St. Fayette

Two games brought two dominating performances from the Bevill State Community College men?s basketball team last week with wins over Motlow State 72-56 and L.B. Wallace 64-40.

The Bears are playing exceptionally well going into the holiday break and are using the early season experience to prepare them for the tough conference schedule.

?Our matchups so far this year have been great learning experiences for our guys. They are finally realizing that we have to finish down the stretch, and put teams away at the end,? head coach Paul Johnson said. ?We need to work on coming out of the gate fast, and getting into a rhythm that will set the pace for the entire ballgame. We want teams to play us at our tempo.?

Bevill State had an excellent tempo going against the Motlow State Bucks. The Bears shot 50 percent from the floor and hit 80 percent from the free throw line.

DeAndre Coleman added another double-double to his season, pulling 10 boards and putting up a team-high 19 points. Tom Jervis continued his breakout play, adding 15 points to go along with seven rebounds.

After dominating the Bucks down low, the Bears came out firing against L.B. Wallace on Saturday in a 64-40 blowout.

The Bears were 8-of-17 from the three point line, and shooting over 57 percent for the game. Johnson was happy with the play of his team, and the chance he had to play some younger players in the 64-40 decision.

?We just had to come out with some energy and passion and have a breakout game. I would have loved to stretch the lead a little more, but I wanted to play some young guys and get them some valuable learning experiences,? Johnson said. ?With a full slate of games next week I wanted to rest some of the starters, and I was able to do that tonight. I just hope we shoot the way we did tonight each and every night.?

Johnson was able to play 13 of the active roster players in the matchup, and all but one player did not put up points for the Bears. Tom Jervis lead all scorers with 12 and six rebounds.

Bevill State is back at home on December 9 against Alabama Southern at 7 p.m. Season tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 932-3221 ext. 5606.
