CENTRAL ALABAMA BASEBALL PREPARES FOR 2011
The Central Alabama Trojans will have a new look in 2011 thanks to the many new faces this year. With just seven sophomores returning with playing experience from last year?s 3rd place tournament finish, new faces will be seen all over the diamond this spring. The Trojans will also add 22 new players who are true freshmen, redshirt freshmen, or transfers.
On the mound, there will be three veterans to lead the way. Abel Cubero returns after pitching 15.1 innings in ten appearances last season, turning in a 4.70 ERA with 10 strikeouts and only 1 walk. Jordan McCoy also had ten appearances while turning in 16.1 innings with 14 strikeouts. Rodney Tolbert made five starts for the Trojans and struck out 10 in 15 innings. Jordan Carroll, who spent most of last season competing for a position at 1st, will now be counted on to bring some depth to the pitching staff. Sophomore transfers include Cooper Moseley (University of Georgia- 25 apps, 27.1 IP, 4 saves, 23 strikeouts), and Chad Oates (Wallace State- Hanceville) who played but did not pitch last season. Freshmen pitchers this season will include Brewer Carter (Brookstone, GA), Jacob Gibson (Tallassee), Trey Hammock (Beauregard), Tanner Hicks (Stanhope Elmore), Larry Kemp (RS- Benjamin Russell), Mitch McLeod (Charles Henderson), Jacob Noble (Satsuma), and Shane Tooley (Satsuma).
Behind the plate, the Trojans only returner is sophomore Brady Newman (.520, 6 RBI, .571 OPB, 1.000 Fld %). Working with Newman will be freshmen Daniel Gaither (Boaz), Justin Hancock (Enterprise), and Keaton Harding (Hillcrest).
The infield will be very new this year with the only returners being first basemen Jordan Carroll (.327, 4 HRs, 22 RBI) and Brad Bonds (16 RBI, 2 SB). Also competing at first will be Stephen Eldridge (Northside, GA). The middle infield will see a variety of combinations of Aaron Johnson (F- transfer from Western Kentucky University), Cody Lee (S- transfer from Wallace Hanceville, 16 runs, 13 RBI, 9 BBs) along with freshman Cory Thompson (Beauregard) and sophomore transfer Cooper Moseley. At the hot corner will be freshmen Chase Handley (Gardendale) and Hector Justo (RS- William C Bryant, N.Y.).
In the outfield, the Trojans return just one starter. Cameron Carlisle (.375, 5 HR, 15 Dbl, 38 RBI, 37 BBs) will once again be asked upon to patrol right field and to be a leader in the middle of the lineup. Joining him will be freshmen Dalton Edwards (Auburn), Todd Thompson (Auburn), and Levi Wilson (Central Coosa).
