While most students were just returning to class at Central Alabama Community College (CACC) on Wednesday, the volleyball team has been practicing since Aug. 1.
That's when they started two-a-days, which continued for the first eight days of practice. Volleyball coach Anna Taylor likes what she has seen so far, and she hopes to see a whole lot more.
"We are going to be much better than we were last year," Taylor said, "I'm looking forward to seeing the new team play."
The team has two, one returning starter from last year - Benjamin Russell graduate Mallory Adair. Taylor also got sophomore Robin Camp as a transfer, leaving her with seven spots, all of which are occupied by freshman.
"I'm very pleased with what they've done so far," Taylor said.
Taylor said she was able to land her top three recruits from last season in Brandy Brendle, Haley Henderson and Porsha Lilly. The rest of the freshman squad is solid, Taylor said. She said all the freshman will receive significant playing time and are ready for the challenge youth provides.
"Our biggest struggle will be staying focused," Taylor said. "It's a mind game."
A mino obstacle so far has been an injury to Camp. She tore her ACL on the first day of practice, but was cleared to play immediately after experiencing no pain or swelling.
"It's a blessing that it's not worse," Taylor said. Taylor tore her ACL and was out for the season during her career at CACC.
