Ashley Devries and Lakenya Drayton of Snead State Community College have both received athletic scholarships to Auburn University Montgomery to further pursue their basketball careers. Devries, a 6?1? Center from Clermont, Florida, and Drayton, a 5?11? Forward from Hephzibah, Georgia, will join the AUM Lady Senators? team this fall.
Snead State Lady Parsons head coach Jarrod Plummer gave nothing but praise to his now former post players, showing admiration for their tremendous work ethic. In particular, he applauded Devries (also known as ?Country?) for having played with a broken nose during the last portion of the season. ?She didn?t wear a facemask. Nothing. Just went out there and played,? Plummer stated. Both players fought through every obstacle a season can hold, and they rose above the trials to obtain a scholarship to a four-year school.
Devries and Drayton have provided returning freshman with a goal to reach for themselves. They proved that with hard work and dedication, a free ride and an opportunity to play basketball at a four-year institution is the reward. Coach Plummer believes that the confidence that Devries and Drayton have instilled in his returning players will benefit his team?s chances next season.
Kerri O?Neal is also believed to be receiving an athletic scholarship. Martin Methodist College has shown interest in O?Neal, and they will reportedly offer her the scholarship this weekend. O?Neal is a 5?10? Forward from Lafayette, Georgia.
