Lady Bison Stampede Into 06-07 Season

The Southern Union women's basketball team will open its 2006-2007 season on November 9 against Judson College in Wadley.

"We have been looking forward to the start of this season for a while now," Coach Janet Sparks said. "Anytime you have a down year you are ready to get the new year started."

The Lady Bison return four players from last seasons disappointing 11-18 squad. Those sophomores are Haley Dennis, Stephanie Giddens, Kirby Johnson, and Kristen Lipscomb. Kristen Lipscomb led the team in rebounding averaging 7 rebounds per game.

Coach Janet Sparks has added eleven newcomers to the roster this year. "With only four returning players and the loss of our two leading scorers to graduation, there were a lot of spots to fill. I believe this is one of the best freshmen classes I have had at Southern Union. The freshmen are: Samara Billings, Shanaish Bray, Courtney Brooks, Zaneta Howard, Jessica Jenkins, Rekita Lawson, Octavia Ledlow, Ne'Andria McDowell, Tabreka Pollard, Angie Turner, and Andee Whitaker.
