CULLMAN, Ala.-- The Wallace State-Hanceville golf team recorded its first win of the season in their home tournament at the Cullman
Municipal golf course. The Wallace State Invitational included teams from Rend Lake Community College, Brevard Community College, Faulkner State and Central Alabama Community College.
"We were excited to get the win," Wallace State head coach Dan York said. "It is our first win in three years at the tournament and I was
happy with our performance."
Lions golfers Jace Windom and Zack Lynch tied for fourth place at even par for the tournament. Windom shot rounds of 68-75-73, and Lynch shot 70-72-74. They both finished with scores of 216 overall, and Windom finished the first round with the lowest round of the day and the day's leader.
"Windom and Lynch both made the all-tournament team, which is a big accomplishment for them, especially in their freshmen years. I'm proud of both of them," York said.
Jonathan Visconti finished close behind Windom and Lynch at sixth place and one over par. He finished the tournament with rounds of 75-71-71, and a final score of 217. Jonathan Gunnels took ninth place with rounds of 75-75-69, and finished the tournament with a final score of 219. He finished the third round with the low round of the day.
Josh Butler finished in a tie for 13th at 221 overall, and he turned in
rounds of 72-75-74. Ethan Brown had rounds of 76-80-79, and a final score of 235.
Wallace State will head to the dual region and district tournament next on April 11-14 in Scottsboro. "We are really going to be working hard this week to get ready for the tournament. The days are more suitable for practice now and that will help in our preparation," York said.
"We've got to stay focused and work hard to come away with another win. We got some confidence after this win, and we'll take that with us when we go to Scottsboro."
