HANCEVILLE – Wallace State Community College’s softball program has produced two more National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I All-Americans.

Sophomore ace Kelsey Dennis was recently named a NJCAA First-Team All-American, while shortstop Saige Wright was selected to the third team.

Dennis, a native of Helena, posted a sparkling 31-1 record this season with a 0.73 ERA, recording 250 strikeouts in 211 2/3 innings. The left-hander tossed 19 complete games, including nine shutouts and added a team-best .355 average at the plate as Wallace State finished 62-9.

During the postseason, Dennis was named the Alabama Community College Conference Region 22 Tournament Co-MVP as Wallace State won its fourth consecutive state title. Two weeks later, she picked up four wins at the NJCAA National Championship in St. George, Utah, helping the Lady Lions finish national runner-up for the second year in a row.

In addition to Dennis’ accolades this year, she was a NJCAA First-Team All-American in 2009 after finishing with a 34-4 record and a 0.84 ERA. She was the NJCAA Region XXII Player of the Year, an ACCC All-Tournament selection and named to the National Coaches Association All-South Region First Team.

The Pelham High graduate leaves Wallace State as a two-time First-Team All-American and the school leader in career wins (65) and strikeouts (590). Dennis has committed to play her final two seasons at Texas Tech University.

Wright earns All-American honors for the first time. The Tuscaloosa Academy graduate played in 69 games for the Lady Lions and finished as the team leader in runs scored (47) and steals (43).

Batting second in the lineup, Wright added a .327 average, one homer and 16 RBIs after switching this season to a left-handed hitter.

Wright anchored a solid defense at shortstop and was also named to the ACCC All-Region 22 first team and the ACCC All-Northern Division team.

Wright has committed to the University of Nebraska to resume her softball career.

Dennis and Wright helped Wallace State win two state titles, two national runner-up trophies and compile a 125-19 record in two seasons.
