GADSDEN, Ala.-- The Wallace State-Hanceville men's cross country team won the recent Gadsden State Cardinal Classic Race. Wallace recorded three top five finishes in the meet.
"It was great to take the event," head coach Stan Narewski said. "Our men did well and we were happy to take the first place spot."
Camden Holmes won the men's 8K event in 23:12. Kornyan Bailey was fourth after a run of 24:51 while Chris Hobbs came in a close fifth with a time of 24:55. Andrew Nunez was sixth in 25:13, and Daniel Rusk took the eighth place spot with a finish of 26:09. Everette Foxx was 10th for the Lions, finishing the event in 26:59.
"Everybody is showing improvement," Narewski said. "This was not only our first individual win, but our first team win for the season. Everybody is working hard as we continue into the season."
On the women's side, Traci Hite was the top runner for Wallace State, finishing the women's 5K in 24:14. Christen Fox turned in a time of 25:17 and Tasheilra Jones finished in 27:26. Samantha Bishop crossed the line with a time of 27:34, and Emily Arnold finished in 27:57. Jalisa Lockhart's time was 30:06 and Kierra Clawson finished in 39:06. Nikki Bedford recorded a time of 39:24.
Narewski added, "The men and women are showing improvement as the season progresses. We need to work on our turnover and improving our overall speed as we end the season. We have to get faster if we want to be ready to compete at the state meet."
Wallace will compete in the Jacksonville State Foothills Classic on Saturday, October 13. They will follow that with a trip to Hamilton for the Bevill State Invitational on Thursday, October 18.
