ACCC HALL OF FAME

Jimmy Archibald - 1993

Jimmy Archibald, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Archibald was born in Bessemer, Alabama.  He played his prep baseball at Holt High School in Tuscaloosa, where he was named to the All-State Lists as a senior.

He signed to play basketball at Calhoun in the spring of 1970.  Archibald went on to post a 10-1 record and earn All-American honors. He set a record for the most victories in a row with eight consecutive wins.

Archibald, a right-handed pitcher parlayed a record-setting 1971 baseball season into becoming the first All-American from John C. Calhoun State Community College.  Eight of his records still remain in the Warhawk record books.

Returning as a sophomore in the spring of 1972, Archibald helped to hurl the Warhawks to their first Alabama Junior College Conference Championship. He pitched a record 19 1/3 innings, striking out 197 batters, another record.  He also set a new standard in strikeouts for a game as he struck out 16 Walker College batters.

Archibald was to set four career marks, which still stand.  He had a 1.42 earned run average in 177 1/3 innings on the mound and posted a high of 18 victories, all career marks.  He only lost three games as a Warhawk Hurler.  Another new standard was the striking out of 202 batters.

Leaving Calhoun, Archibald signed with the University of Alabama.  Over a two-year span, he won 14 and lost 12 games.

Archibald is the Athletic Director and head football coach at Choctaw County High School in butler.  He has posted a 46-27 record in football.  When he was baseball coach, his teams won 90 games while losing 50.

Archibald is the father of three girls, Meredith, 10, Ashley, 8, and Melissa, 5.
