Jimmy Archibald - 1993
Jimmy Archibald, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Archibald was born in Bessemer, Alabama. He played his prep baseball at
Holt High School in Tuscaloosa, where he was named to the All-State Lists as a
senior.
He signed to play basketball at Calhoun
in the spring of 1970. Archibald went on to post a 10-1 record and earn
All-American honors. He set a record for the most victories in a row with eight
consecutive wins.
Archibald, a right-handed pitcher
parlayed a record-setting 1971 baseball season into becoming the first
All-American from John C. Calhoun State Community College. Eight of his records
still remain in the Warhawk record books.
Returning as a sophomore in the spring of
1972, Archibald helped to hurl the Warhawks to their first Alabama Junior
College Conference Championship. He pitched a record 19 1/3 innings, striking
out 197 batters, another record. He also set a new standard in strikeouts for a
game as he struck out 16 Walker College batters.
Archibald was to set four career marks,
which still stand. He had a 1.42 earned run average in 177 1/3 innings on the
mound and posted a high of 18 victories, all career marks. He only lost three
games as a Warhawk Hurler. Another new standard was the striking out of 202
batters.
Leaving Calhoun, Archibald signed with
the University of Alabama. Over a two-year span, he won 14 and lost 12
games.
Archibald is the Athletic Director and
head football coach at Choctaw County High School in butler. He has posted a
46-27 record in football. When he was baseball coach, his teams won 90 games
while losing 50.
Archibald is the father of three girls,
Meredith, 10, Ashley, 8, and Melissa, 5.
