Dr. William H. McWhorter - 1989
Dr. William H. McWhorter was born January
9, 1928, at Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from high school at Jacksonville,
Alabama 1945. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville State
University in 1949 and Master of Arts from George Peabody College of Teachers,
Nashville, Tennessee, in 1959. His doctorate degree is from the University of
Alabama, 1969.
Dr. McWhorter served as Dean of Faulkner
State Junior College from 1967-69. He served as President of Lurleen B. Wallace
State Junior College since 1969.
Dr. Williams H. McWhorter has been very
influential in supporting that Alabama Junior College Conference. He has
contributed to the Conference in the following specific ways: was very
instrumental in helping lay the groundwork in the re-organization of the Alabama
Junior College Conference in 1971-72:has worked hard toward strengthening the
Conference in all areas for the past twenty years: is one of the few Alabama
College presidents to participate in the National Legislative Assemblies: has
initiated movements to expand the number of sports in which the Conference
participates: has been very influential in assisting in rezoning division lines
as the number of participants increased: has demonstrated his concern for
college athletics ad proved to be a real catalyst for improvements in the
Conference. Dr. McWhorter has held the following offices in the Alabama Junior
College Conference: 1972-74, Secretary – Treasurer; 1974-79, President; 1980-82,
Vice President of the South; 1984-85, Secretary – Treasurer; 1985-86, President;
1988-89, Vice President of the South.
