Marcha Guy Moore - 1994
Marcha Guy Moore was born November 15,
1940, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was raised in Mound, Minnesota and
graduated form Mound High School in 1959. She attended Mankato State College in
Mankato, Minnesota where she was a physical education major and president of the
major’s club. Marcha graduated with a BS in 1963.
Upon graduation Marcha began her teaching
career at Horace Mann Junior High School in Wausau, Wisconsin. In 1964 she
began her Master’s degree at Western Kentucky University while teaching as a
graduate assistant. She completed her Master’s degree in 1966.
Marcha began her career at Jefferson
State in 1967. She began coaching tennis in 1975. Since 1975 Marcha’s teams
have finished in the top eight in the National Junior College Athletic
Association Women’s Championships seven times with the highest finish being
4th in 1992 and 1993. Marcha’s teams have won the Region XXII NJCAA
championship fifteen times since 1978 and eleven consecutive times since
1982.
Marcha has been Region XXII Coach of the
Year fifteen consecutive times. She served as President of the Women’s Tennis
Coaching Association for the NJCAA from 1989 – 1993. Marcha received the
Women’s Sports Foundation National Coaching Awards in 1991. She coached the
American Paralympics Wheelchair Tennis Team in Barcelona, Spain in 1992. She
also coached the American women in the World team cup held in Warmbad Villach,
Austria, August 1993.
Marcha was named intercollegiate Coach of
the Year for 1993. She was also inducted into the NJCAA Women’s Coaches Hall of
Fame in 1993.
Marcha has been very active in volunteer
coaching for wheelchair athletes since 1989. Marcha is married to Dr. Bal
Moore. She has two sons, Guy, 25 and Scott, 22.
