Maxie G. Boles - 1991
Maxie was born July 30, 1942, in Detroit,
Michigan, but grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. He graduated from Columbia
Military Academy, Tennessee, where he lettered in three sports and was named
Athlete of the Year in 1961. As a high school senior, he was named
All-Conference in football, basketball, and track.
Boles signed a football/track scholarship
ward to Middle Tennessee State University in 1961, lettering in varsity football
his freshman –sophomore years, and varsity track 1961-65. He was named All-Ohio
Valley Conference and team captain in 1965 while holding school records in the
broad jump and 440 yard relay team.
In the fall of 1966, Maxie Boles was
named HPR Instructor/Golf Coach for Alexander City Junior College, and for
twenty-five years has established one of the most successful golf programs at
any level of college fog in the nation. His coaching record includes: 18
Alabama College Conference Championships, 19 NJCAA Region Championships, and 21
consecutive trips to the NJCAA National Championship (national record). His
teams have won over 150 collegiate tournaments, finished national runners-up
five times, and he has coached 44 All-Americans. In 1990, Central Alabama
Community College won their first NJCAA Golf Championship and Coach Boles was
named National Coach of the Year.
Maxie was named to the NJCAA Golf Hall of
Fame in 1985 and has served as State and National Golf Coaches Association
president. He is presently Director of Athletics/Golf Coach at Central Alabama
Community College. He and his wife, Mary, have two sons, Randall Scott and
Jeffrey Gene.
