Ronald Taylor - 1999
Ronald Taylor was born on April 24, 1968
in Moulton, Alabama.
Ronald was a graduate of Lawrence County
High School in 1986. During his career, he selected on the All-Area and
All-County Team for three years. As a senior, he was selected to the Alabama
All-State Team and averaged 25 points per game.
Ronald Taylor played guard at northwest
Junior College from 1986-1988. His career at northwest was outstanding. Ronald
led the Alabama Junior College Conference in scoring his freshman and sophomore
years. He averaged 25.1 points per game his freshman year fro a total of 652
points and 29.96 points per game his sophomore year for a total for 779 points.
Ronald scored 1431 point6s in two years for an average of 27.52. He is third on
the AJCCC single season scoring list at 29.96. Ronald not only was a great
scorer, but in his sophomore season, he averaged 8.42 rebounds per game, 5.38
assists per game and 1.69 blocked shots per game.
During his career at northwest, Ronald
was selected by the coaches to the Northern All-Division Team two years and the
All-Region team two years, being the only freshman on the team in 1986-87. He
was selected the Most outstanding player in the AJCCC in 1987-88. He was
selected to play in the Junior College All-Star Game in Madland, Texas. Ronald
was selected Third Team All-American by the NJCAA.
Ronald scored over 20 points 42 times in
his 52 games. Twelve times he scored over 30 points; 5 times over 40 points and
one time over 50 points (53 points verses Wallace State at
Hanceville).
Seven times Ronald scored 27 or more
points in one-half with highs of 34 verses Phillips College, 33 verses Wallace
State at Hanceville, 32 verses Jeff Davis and Calhoun. Only one time was he
held in single digits in 52 games.
Ronald attended the University of
Tennessee after graduating from northwest. He was twice selected Southeastern
Conference Player of the Game by Jefferson Pilot. Ronald graduated from UT with
a degree in Sociology. He worked at Decatur General in Social Services until
his untimely death in March of 1994 when he was hit head on by a drunken teenage
driver. Ronald was an asset to his community and to the schools he attended at
his death he was doing what he did best – helping others.
