ACCC HALL OF FAME

FRED FRICKIE - 2007

Fred Frickie retired as the baseball coach at Calhoun Community College in 1995 after serving as the only coach in the school?s history. Frickie?s winning record of 669 victories continues to rank him foremost among AJCCC Baseball Coaches and in the top 25 of the nation?s 2-year Baseball Coaches.

Frickie?s teams participated in more than 20 Alabama Junior/Community College Conference tournaments, winning the post-season classic on six occasions. His team won 669 games, while losing 419 for a winning percentage of 618.

Six of Frickie?s players were named as National Junior College Athletic Association All-Americans, including AJCCC Hall of Famer?s Jimmy Archibald, Larry Keenum, and Gary Redus. Major League All-Star Jorge Posada of the New York Yankees, Mike Rivera of the Milwaukee Brewers are among the numerous players that played for Frickie before going on to play in the professional ranks. Several other players have excelled in the minor leagues. Frickie also can be credited for a high percentage of his players moving on to senior colleges, whether as a player or as a student.

A noted authority on the art of hitting a baseball, Frickie led several of his teams to a high national ranking in batting averages. On several occasions, his team?s batting average exceeded .300 for the season.

A native of Clarks, Louisiana, and a graduate of Neville High School in Monroe, Louisiana where his team won state baseball championships for his junior and senior years, he was an All-American at the University of Alabama after batting .405 during his junior campaign. Signed by the Cleveland Indians, he played for three years in their farm system before returning to the University of Alabama to complete his education. After coaching on the high school level as he earned a graduate degree, he was hired at John C. Calhoun State Technical Junior College in the fall of 1967 to coach baseball and build a foundation for one of the most successful baseball programs in the state.

Married to the former Martha Hill, Frickie has three children, Brian, Renee, and Brett and nine grandchildren.
